SK3 (KCa3, Kcnn3, SKCa3) forms a voltage-independent potassium channel activated by intracellular calcium. Activation is followed by membrane hyperpolarization. Thought to regulate neuronal excitability by contributing to the slow component of synaptic afterhyperpolarization. The channel is blocked by apamin. Size: 736 amino acids; 82026D Subunit: Hetero-oligomer. The complex is composed of 4 channel subunits each of which binds to a calmodulin subunit which regulates the channel activity through calcium-binding (By similarity). Recommended Dilution: Western Blot: 1:200 using ECL on rat brain membranes. Immunohistochemistry: Rat brain sections. Further dilutions should be made using a carrier protein such as 1-3% BSA or HSA. Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
