Oncostatin M is an important growth regulating cytokine that affects, variably, a number of tumor and normal cells. Oncostatin M exerts inhibitory effects on the growth of A375 melanoma and other cancer cells but augments the growth of normal fibroblasts, AIDS related Kaposi sarcoma cells, and certain other cells. Oncostatin M is a 25.8kD protein containing 227 amino acid residues.
Biological Activity
USBio's human Oncostatin M is fully biologically active when compared to standards. The ED50 as determined by the dose dependent stimulation of the proliferation of human TF-1 cells is
(same/less than) 2ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of 5x10e5 units/mg.
Responding Cells (partial list):
Tumor cells, certain other cells
Concentration Range:
For most in vitro applications: 0.1-10ng/ml
Storage and Stability:
Lyophilized powder may be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. Reconstitute to nominal volume in sterile water and store at -20 degrees C. Reconstituted product is stable for 12 months at -20 degrees C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
