Syk is a 80kD protein tyrosine kinase (PTK), expressed in immature T cells, all B cells, basophils, hepatocytes, platelets, and erythrocytes. It functions in some T cell receptor signaling processes in addition to B cell receptor and integrin-mediated signal transduction processes. Syk-/syk- mice exhibit defective phagocytosis by macrophages.
