Members of the SOCS family have been identified due to their marked homology on the SH2 domain and a unique conserved motif referred to as the SOCS box. Expression of SOCS3 is transiently induced in a variety of immune and inflammatory situations by a wide variety of cytokines. SOCS3 is also involved in growth hormone function, leptin and insulin signaling. SOCS3 inhibits Janus kinase (JAK) tyrosine kinase activity.
