Selective isolation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and other gram-negative, non-fermentative bacteria.
Centrimide Agar is based on Tech Agar, which was developed by King, Ward and Raney. Centrimide is prepared according to this formula with the addition of Centrimide (cetyltrimethylammonium bromide). Cetrimide is a quaternary ammonium, cationic detergent with limited disinfectant action. It causes nitrogen and phosphorus to be released from the bacterial ceII. This germicidal activity is effective on most microorganisms except Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Centrimide Agar Base is supplemented with 1% Glycerol as a source of carbon.
