Caspofungin is a semi-synthetic analogue of pneumocandin B0 with improved water solubility, a significant limitation in the development of the echinocandin class as pharmaceuticals. Caspofungin acts by inhibiting the synthesis of b-(1,3)-D-glucan, an essential component of the cell wall of susceptible fungi.

Soluble in water and methanol or DMSO. Slightly soluble in ethanol.
Storage and Stability:
Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20 degrees C. Stable for 12 months at -20 degrees C. Reconstitute with DMSO. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degrees C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
